 1 - The point of this wide shot is to set the scene, showing its outdoors and in an urban area

  2 - The next shot is is a close up of the cathedral that you can see faintly in the first shot, this shot foreshadows the location of all the other shots later in the video.  

 3 - The 3rd shot is a close up of the woman. This enables us to know who the person is and who the main character potentially is.

 4 - This mid shot shows the outfit of the woman much better whilst showing her put her glasses on - a potential danger?                                                  
     

Radiohead Street Spirit

In our lesson we listened to 'Street Spirit' by Radiohead. We discussed as a class what the textual analysis means in the video. As soon as the video starts you see the singer standing against a black background. This could symbolize how isolated the singer feels as the black makes us feel that there is nothing around him. It then cuts to showing him falling from a caravan in slow motion. This immediately causes an enigma code as we are unaware as to why he is falling. The use of the slow motion creates a tedious wait to see him hit the floor whilst the use of the setting of the caravan makes us think that he comes from a poor background, maybe being the reason for him falling from his troubles. Later on in the video we see a mixture of fast and slow motion shots in the same shot. This creates a sense of confusion as one eye see's fast pace whilst the other eye see's slow pace. It also symbolizes how life goes, sometimes life seems to go fast when you'e enjoying it however when you're failing to enjoy it, it goes in slow motion.

What music means to me

Scouting For Girls - 'This ain't a love song'



Andrew Goodwin's theory applies here as the video has a relationship with the lyrics. The song talks about people leaving one another and is set at an airport - a place where you predominantly leave others.  Another time the images match the lyrics is when they sing 'I've been mad, I'm the kind of man that I'm not'. Here we see a middle aged man have an argument with a person on the checking desk, showing him getting mad.

Alesso - 'Tear the roof up'



Andrew Goodwin's theory of thought beats applies here in this music video. We see a thought beat when the person in the video hits the wall to mark the change of tempo in the song. We also see it again just when the song drops into the chorus the man drops down as well and fire appears at the same time of the drop.

 Krept & Konan - 'Freak Of The Weak'



Carlos Vernallis's theory of editing applies here as we see jump cuts at the start of the video between the woman on the floor and the people singing. This creates a disillusion experience for the person viewing the video.

Narrative

• Suggested that the video is a visual response of the narrative 
• Whatever is happening onscreen reflects the choice of lyrics that the artist is singing
• HOWEVER - The narrative may not always be completed and can be partial with the video appearing disjointed, disconnected and appear in fragments. 
• The video's narrative may be displayed in a montage style rather than one in clear focus. 

Editing

• She suggested that all videos follow the same editing techniques. The editing may also be made visible.
• Most videos will include - JUMP CUTS / CUTTING WITH LYRICS / EXTREME CHANGES IN PACE / JUXTAPOSE FRAMES / GRAPHIC MATCHES

Camera movements and framing

• She states that establishing the shots are one of the key camera features of a music video and are refused frequently throughout a music video as well as close up shots, usually to show off the artist.
• The style of framing of the video again is quite distinctive to the video and also the camera may move in time with the lyrics.

Diegesis (the world of the music video)  

• Will be revealed slowly 
• There will be many repetitions throughout the video and some frames will appear more important than others due to the way they have been shot/framed.

Getting started

What I'm looking forward to:

The main thing I am looking forward to is the end result of our music video when it all comes together. The reason behind this is because I'm looking forward to see how well we have worked as a team to get a professional music video complete. I am also looking forward to hearing all the different ideas people come up with to shoot the music video as this means we may explore new and exciting locations.

What might be a challenge:

One of the main things I think that may be a challenge is deciding who's going to be in front of the camera due to a lot of people being camera shy. Another challenge that I will have to overcome is how to make my editing look professional and not childlike as in the past my editing has looked unoriginal as I didn't try anything new when it came to the effects used. The final challenge will be coming up with an idea for our music video and then deciding which one to use if we have a series of ideas.

My 'Learning needs':

Before we start our music video I will need to learn how to lip sync people too the song and make it look realistic rather than tacky. I will also need to know all the different types of shots to use when filming the video to make sure we gain as many marks as possible.
