Parody of genre videos

In this Horrible Histories music video they are imitating Lady Gaga's song 'Bad Romance'. The genre to this music video is pop so you would expect to see specific things in the video relating to it. The pop genre is usually dominated by females and you can clearly see that in this video. The lead role is taken on by a woman and she is backed up with woman backing dancers. You can apply Laura Mulvey concept that visual arts are structured around a male viewer as the majority of the shots are filled with females. As it is a pop video you expect it to be very upbeat and joyful. This is shown in the video as the shots cut extremely quickly and on the beat. This links to Andrew Goodwin's thought beat theory as you can visually see the music in your head. Another way this video is clearly shown to be pop is with the excessive amount of make up worn. A typical pop music video is extremely vibrant and outgoing, this is shown by the vast amounts of face make up worn, especially on the main singer.
